In the Fall of 2025, Sketchbook Theatre presented Tolstoy’s The Death of Ivan Ilyich in a world premiere of a bold and innovative adaptation by Victoria Mack — one that honors the depth of the original story while revealing its surprising modernity and dark absurdist underbelly.
Performed in the round at an intimate setting in Greenpoint by five superb veteran NYC actors, and accompanied by live music and ice-cold shots of vodka, the play offered audiences a rare encounter with a classic story re-awakened.
